The Impact of the 21st Century to College Student.

Recently I just finished a seminar in I.T. In two days as I try to analyze the topics which were discussed by the different I.T expert and from the informative way of advised from the circle of senior educators in the Philippines and from some foreign CEO and CIO.

They are telling the effect of these tremendous trends that scattering all over the industries across the world. A new
phase in the world of technology new workplace in the office, the new environment, a new setup of school rooms that we need to rebuild and embrace in order for us to be updated and to level up to high standard of competition. It is basically will be in all sectors of the society as we will face the challenge of the coming era that all relies on the internet. That is why our Government is rushing to pass, create and implement the law in K-12 in preparation for the year 2015 up to 2020.

The question is….Do our students are ready to face the challenge of this new era? Are they well-equipped? Are they skilled enough in facing this new demand of skilled workers? Or are they in College just for the sake of finishing college, I hope it is not because of norm or either they just want to go with the flow….  It is too naïve to think that they would just like to have fun and to wear college uniforms or perhaps maybe to think of that they really loved to be in the extra-curricular activities. Many do not even know what they would really like to do or what will they become after the diploma. Where is the skill that they master along the way for two to four years? They can’t say to the job interviewers that they are good in sports or in music or band or they are famous in school because of their beauty or they are college heartthrobs. With this they are just graduates of a theory course but sad to say no application at all.

What the industries needs are a well equipped graduate who master their fields whether this is two year course or a four year course. They need to be a pro active, dynamic, and a student centered graduates who are open in the new challenges of change… of new technology.

To be continued……..
